Worthy Opponents
Worthy Opponents by Danielle Steel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Audible audiobook.
Plot. A young woman struggles to maintain the integrity and beauty of a large department store. Spencer Brooks inherited the store – originally established by her grandfather 75 years ago. A popular stop for the elite, from the First Lady to rocks stars, “Brooks” is also in a collapsing neighborhood of violence and gang wars – the homeless sleep outside the store. Spencer is determined to stay in the building her grandfather built and maintain 100% ownership. Her staff is determined to get investment capital to expand – and move. Enter a drop-dead-gorgeous investment manager … and, well, it IS a Danielle Steel, ergo …. sparks fly.
Liked. Classic romantic beach read. An escape into magnificent descriptions of the store, the fabulous and exquisite merchandise from all over the world. Everything is fairy-land beautiful. No sex, no objectionable language, squeaky clean read. You can give a copy to grandma.
Not so hot. Unrealistic and eye-rolling. Nothing and no one is this perfect, except in a Danielle Steele novel.
