The Body Reader (Detective Jude Fontaine Mysteries, #1)The Body Reader by Anne Frasier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Plot. Police procedurals. This is not a spoiler, but the series opens with Jude Fontaine, emaciated and brutalized, killing her captor. The last three years have been in confinement in a small basement – raped, beaten, and severely abused—no human contact. Jude is a Minneapolis homicide detective who rejoins the force and resumes her career—carrying a ton of emotional baggage—and an ability to read people in a more intense manner … as she learned to read her captor and stay alive.

Three book series, suggest you start with book one for continuity, or you’ll miss out in understanding Jude.

Warning: These are police procedurals, ergo, grizzly murder events/scenes.

Liked. No sex, no offensive language, clean reads. The narration is well done. Minnesota winters are nicely defined – it really is deadly, miserable, and bitterly cold – and beautiful. Plots are detailed, engaging, twisty. Characters are likable.

Not so hot. The Minneapolis police department allowing Jude to return to work so soon isn’t realistic – wouldn’t happen. Bumped the speed to 1.4 – not really a complaint, but rather a preference.

Written by Anne Frasier and narrated by Emily Sutton-Smith; each book is 8-9 hours of listening in unabridged audiobook format and released from 2016-19 by Brilliance Audio.

Recommended … enjoy!
