Breakthrough (Breakthrough, #1)Breakthrough by Michael C. Grumley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Plot. Allyson, a marine biologist, is studying communication with dolphins and primates. Seems it works. The series addresses animal intelligence, alien life forms, mysterious healing abilities, an ancient spaceship deep in the waters of the Caribbean, a power-hungry world, and more. Allyson’s adventures traverse seven full-length novels and multiple continents. Several characters traverse all novels, including two dolphins, Sally and Dirk – start from the beginning for the continuity of an incredible story.

Liked. An excellent series that is page-turning and exciting. No double-taps or blood dripping down walls, but an exciting adventure from the halls of the White House to the jungles of Africa to an ocean rife with the secret lives of dolphins. No sex, no objectionable language. Take Cousteau, Clancy, Asimov, and Cussler and stir in a stew – you’re close to the Breakthrough series. Narration by Scott Brick is terrific, as usual.

Not so hot. Only seven books in the series. What’s next? Come on, Grumley; there has got to be more!

Written by Michael C. Grumley; series narrated by Scott Brick and over 70 hours of listening in unabridged audiobook format; released from 2019 through 2021 by Recorded Books.
