Baldacci merged characters! This book includes Amos and his partner Alex, AND Will Robie. his partner, Jessica Reel, even Blue Man! FBI and CIA cooperation? Wonders never cease. This should tell you I’m a fan of Baldacci. His stories are always a fun mystery. Clues galore, good guys, and bad guys traverse the pages.
Plot. Decker and Jamison are dispatched to London, South Dakota, to assist in the investigation of the grizzly murder of a woman found in the woods. The two haven’t a clue as to why they are involved as this murder is clearly a local police issue. But, they soon find out that the woman’s fingerprints flipped a red flag at FBI headquarters. Why? Who is she? Bodies pile as the case gets more and more bizarre. Dogged police work brings Decker to a perilous situation resulting in Will Robie saving his life. What’s Robie doing there? This story begins to get more complex.
This is the only real criticism I have of the story. Not so much that the characters are merged, but that there are so many characters… Half a dozen murders, each a story in itself of who and why. Add to this a domestic terror plot that extends to the stuffed shirts in Washington to mercenaries in South Dakota and bioweapons. Very twisty plot.
